2025 Winter Wipeout

The Dereham Otters Swimming Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the 2025 Winter Wipeout competition, held at Sportspark, UEA Norwich.
Across the two-day event, the club achieved an impressive 13 medals—4 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze—alongside 72 personal best swims from 121 total races, representing a 60% success rate.
Speaking after the event, the Head Coach of the Dereham Otters, Sam Watts praised both the performances and the team spirit shown throughout the weekend. He commented “Swimmers embraced the challenge of a demanding competition, supported one another poolside, and represented the club with pride.”
The atmosphere at the venue was energetic and positive, with strong encouragement from swimmers, coaches, and parents alike. This sense of unity and enthusiasm is exactly what the club aims to foster, particularly at high-pressure competitions such as Winter Wipeout.
Among many strong individual performances, special mention was given to Charley Taylor, who demonstrated determination and composure across the weekend. Charley raced with confidence, pushed hard in every event, and continued to show clear progress—not only in results, but also in race execution and attitude. This level of consistency sets an excellent example for the wider squad.
Dolcie Underwood was also praised for her focus and resilience. She stepped up to the challenge, delivered strong swims, and maintained a positive mindset even when races proved tough. Her work ethic and willingness to learn were evident throughout the meet.
Overall, the Winter Wipeout competition proved to be a valuable experience for the Dereham Otters, with swimmers gaining confidence, building race experience, and supporting one another as a team—something clearly reflected in the positive response and engagement seen across the club’s social media platforms.
