Small Team, Big Results for Dereham Otters

Will Nutt

A team of seven swimmers from Dereham Otters made a big impact at the Colchester Summer Sprints Open Meet, returning with an impressive tally of 10 medals despite being one of the smaller clubs represented.

Competing against strong opposition from across the region, the Otters squad collected five gold, two silver and three bronze medals during a successful day of racing.

The team delivered strong performances across a variety of events, with swimmers combining race-day determination with the technical skills developed through months of training. Several athletes also achieved personal best times, underlining the progress being made throughout the season.

One of the highlights of the meet came from William Nutt, who secured an excellent runner-up finish in the demanding IM Skins competition. The event, which tests swimmers across multiple strokes and distances, attracted a highly competitive field, making his second place result a notable achievement.

The Otters swimmers embraced the challenge throughout the meet, producing a series of confident performances and supporting one another both on poolside and in the water.

Head coach Sam Watts praised the squad's efforts, saying: "To come away with this level of success from a team of just seven swimmers is a tremendous achievement. The swimmers represented the club brilliantly, showed great character throughout the competition and were rewarded with some excellent results. William's performance in the IM Skins event was particularly pleasing, and the whole team should be proud of what they achieved."

The results provide further encouragement for Dereham Otters as the club looks ahead to its upcoming competitions.
